The New DOCTOR WHO

... is Matt Smith, who will take over from the current Doctor, David Tennant, in late 2009. Here is an extended interview with Matt Smith from BBC One's "Doctor Who Confidential: The Eleventh Doctor."

XXXL hat tip to Anthony Taylor. Thanks, Anthony!

  1. I'm hoping Smith will bring back some of The Doctor's lovable arrogance (Eccleston did this exceptionally well) which has been missing with Tennant.

I like David Tennant but his characterization became way too somber.

  2. Larry, Doctor Who-ness is in the eye of the beholder. I always thought that Eccleston was too grim, so go figure!

Tennant always could make me laugh, and get excited about what would happen next -- often both at the same time (and helped by the bombastic Murray Gold music). For instance, at the link below, at 1:42 minutes in, when he responds to cries of "Doctor!" with a "Who? Me?" and smiles and races off screen.

  4. If Doctor Who is to have a Flock Of Seagulls hair, Matt Smith is the man to give it to us.
I'm reserving judgement until we actually see him as the Doctor of course, but I think they might lose a few hundred (thousand) of the forty year olds who watch and preach the gospel of the Who.
Time, as it does in all things Whovian, will tell...

  5. Personally I would have loved an elderly, excentric chap being the new Doctor - someone Pertwee-like. But then, let's wait and see what the Smith-Timelord will be like.

  6. Yeah, I thought that Moffat wanted someone older, crankier. Well, if the stories are fun (and I hope they are), I'll tune in.

  7. Aren't they running out of regenerations?

  8. Gee whiz, Brian, I hadn't thought of that.
