Video: Harlan Ellison on "The City On the Edge of Forver"

Some more unseen TOS behind the scenes stuff.

Titled "Star Trek Insights, these extra bumpers were produced for the Sci Fi channel, when it ran STAR TREK uncut in prime time in 1996. So far as I know, unseen since then and not available on DVD or BluRay.

These framing bits, hosted by Shatner and/or Nimoy, told viewer about the creation of an episode, what the reaction to the show was, any bloopers to watch out for, etc. Take a look at Harlan Ellison and the story behind the rewrite of his "City on the Edge of Forever."

  1. I absolutely like the writer's original ending better! Kirk is overcome by love, and moves to save Edith but is stopped by the logical Spock. The writer explains that would show the power of love, it's ability to make one "sacrifice the universe for love", whereas I thought it would be a better ending because it showed the power of logic to save the universe!

  2. Yeah, but Kirk had to be a hero, etc.

Wouldn't it be great if Abrams called Ellison and said, We are going to do your scripts as you imagined it for the next TREK movie!

    OK, OK. I can dream, can't I?!

Oh -- and I got chills when Ellison said, "We are the Guardians of Forever."
