SATURDAY EVENING POST Scrapbook Part 18

Above: George Gately's take on a newly waxed floor. At the bottom of today's blog entry, take a look at Bob Barnes' "deja vu" on the gag.

Here are some gag cartoons from late 1950s SATURDAY EVENING POST magazines. Some good gags on suburban life, the drinking life, vacations and a bit of shopping by Barnes, Dahlin, Gallagher, Gately, Green, Hilton, Hunt, Kaz, Lamb, Markow, Pascal, Porges, Salo, Shirvanian, Taber, Tyrrell, Yates, Zeis and others.

A few of the cartoons in the scrapbook are in bad shape like the one above. That's why occasionally they look "bleached."

Peter Porges' cartoon is funny and creepy at the same time.

Above: one of Jack Markow's most reprinted cartoons. He's used it in a number of his "how to cartoon" books.

My thanks to Kristin Cawood for giving me this large scrapbook of 1950s gag cartoons to share! Thanks, Kristin!

  1. So was "George" the most popular name for 1950s cartoon husbands?
