You found a Mort Walker cartoon I haven't got yet. I knew he worked for The American Legion magazine. I even bought a couple of complete years. But I stopped looking after 1953, since I know Mort had stopped drawing new cartoons in 1951/2. Okay, he had had a couple published in 1000 Jokes and Gags/Here! (even into 1954) but they had probably been sold earlier and one of his biggest buyers, Saturday Evening Post stopped around 1952 as well. Now I see I have to go and check AL for the full length.
ReplyDeleteI have one from May, 1953 and two from 1954--May and June. My guess would be they may be unsold cartoons he did earlier. The ones from 1000 Jokes signed "Mort" are likely some of his unsold favorites he could finally publish when he became editor. Just one crackpot's opinion--you are the true expert.
