Wish they were a little closer to New England. I used to give a lecture for high school students on political cartooning and covered much of this same ground and would love to hear what they have to say. But political cartoons "to 2010" is a little optimistic. I think we're in a down cycle right now, with most cartoonists producing the same kind of partisan, name-calling dross that the other political commentators are spewing. I suppose Frank Beard's "I want my Pa!" cartoon arose from such a low point, but it really is a classic of partisan hackery, after all.

There are certain cartoonists who are producing some wonderful, iconic work, but I do not see them in my local paper. My local paper carries 2 syndicated editorial cartoonists who lean to the right and are unimaginative at best with their tired gag writing. However much I may criticize them, these dull, mild cartoons are successfully affiliated with a number of newspapers.
