Last week, I posted about Anthony Taylor moderating a DragonCon panel with Malcolm McDowell and David Warner talking about TIME AFTER TIME. I had a short clip to show. Now, thanks to Mike Langford, here is the complete 51 minute panel chat:

The veteran actors are supposed to be talking about the movie TIME AFTER TIME (1979) in which they played H.G. Wells (McDowell) and Jack the Ripper (Warner). But they digress into, what Warner calls, his STAR TREK career. Warner cites his featured role as Gorkon the peace-making Klingon from the final original cast movie STAR TREK VI: THE UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY. (Warner also was in STAR TREK V, as well as a featured guest in a 2-part STAR TREK THE NEXT GENERATION titled "Chain of Command.")

"Well, I'm the one who killed Kirk, darling," retorts McDowell.

"See what you missed?" David tells us. We missed a lot. But my thanks to Donna Baker for taping a bit of it. Go see!

What a find!

Here's a wonderful rarity: Jonathan Winters riffing between takes of a Big Boy Restaurant commercial. And even better: he's dressed line Big Boy.

This is all off the cuff, unrehearsed improvisational video that someone on the crew of this 1970s era commercial, thankfully, saved.. In other words, Winters gold!

1945 British Pathé Short: MEET GILES, CARTOONIST

Daily Express cartoonist Giles is the guest in this Pathé Personality Pictorial short from 1945 titles "Meet Giles, Cartoonist:"

"Yes. Giles is the name. He's a concerned snooper. Always noting down details wherever he goes to be used later on in one of those drawings that thousands of readers turn to first when the Daily Express or the Sunday Express arrives in the morning."

This is the first time I have ever seen footage of Giles, a cartoonist who a couple of generations grew up with. Foe decades, there was a yearly Giles Annual book produced and so many cartoonists I know have one or more.

I like how he goes onsite to sketch -- to make sure he gets details right in the finished drawing. I, too, have drawn in a chair in my garden, but I have to get my own strong coffee.

His presentation details his cartoon process, the importance and influence of the political cartoon in history, and the necessity of freedom of expression.

Editorial Cartoonist Charlie Daniel Tribute

May 17, 2012: Knoxville, TN - The Howard H. Baker Jr. Center for Public Policy at the University of Tennessee honored Charlie Daniel, the News Sentinel's longtime editorial cartoonist, at a luncheon sponsored by Sen. Baker and his wife, Nancy Kassenbaum Baker, former U.S. senator from Kansas.

Senator Howard Baker commends Charlie Daniel on his cartooning skills ("I've been both the victim and beneficiary") in this video:

Offering tributes to Daniel were Baker; Ginny Weatherstone, head of the Volunteer Ministry Center, where Daniel has long been a board member and volunteer; News Sentinel columnist Sam Venable; and Marshall Ramsey, editorial cartoonist for the Jackson Clarion-Ledger, who as a student at UT in the 1990s was coached and encouraged by Daniel.

Daniel's loving nature and gentle style of humor were cited by all of the speakers.

This event was took place at the Wollman Auditorium at the New School on May 5, 2012. The video runs 90 minutes.

Video: Who Is DOCTOR WHO?

At the end of the last broadcast episode of DOCTOR WHO, Dorium (the big blue guy) has the last words, the words that seem to set up what the next season's story arc will encompass.

"The first question! The question that must never be answered! Hidden in plain sight! The question you've been running from all your life! 'Doctor Who.' 'Doctor Who.' 'Doctor Who!'"

Perhaps it may be the 50th anniversary theme; the "first" question, from the series premiere on November 23, 1963.

Video: 1968 STAR TREK Commercials

Commercials, 1960s style!

Via videoholic50s60s70s: here is a film-chain copy of the STAR TREK episode "Space Seed" with all of the commercials intact and the episode mostly taken out. Yes, really: the parts where you would walk out of the room in 1968 for a visit to the fridge are all here. The length and pre-MTV cutting pace of the commercials is a reminder of a different time with a different attention span. This is a very faded 16mm bit of film.



The commercials in order: Polaroid (narrated by Alexander Scourby, whose voice you may remember from a bunch of shows - you may still buy a copy of him reading the Bible at his site), Viceroy cigarettes, Shell Oil, RCA Victor, Pepsi, Lay's Potato Chips (with the one and only Bert Lahr in a devil outfit), Geritol, and Aqua Velva.
