On August 21, 2009, eight cartoonists drew for the troops, visited the returning Amphibious Assault Ship, the USS BONHOMME RICHARD (LHD-6). National Cartoonists Society President Jeff Keane created this video to commemorate their day. It runs just over 8 minutes.
The participating cartoonists:
- Michael (2 time Pulitzer winning editorial cartoonist) Ramirez
- Chad (Tundra) Carpenter,
- Stephen (Kim Possible, etc.) Silver
- Bruce (Army cartoonist) Higdon
- Mason (BC) Mastroianni
- Greg (Luann) Evans
- Jeff (Broadside naval cartoons) Bacon
- Jeff (Family Circus) Keane
From Jeff's report on his YouTube page:
"... [T]he 8 of us were flown out on a helicopter about 7am... then drew consistently for about 3 1/2 hours for whoever wanted something. We never were without someone being next up. It was a most gratifying experience (just so you know when you are watching this... it appears like we never spent much time drawing but I was too busy to pic or vid during that)... the drawing time was between our greeting on the ship (by the captain no less) and our walking down the corridors... there are a few pics of us setting up to draw...."
