He was my hero from the age of 12 till, um, 52+. In 1974 I got to shake his hand. Have I washed it since?
Forry Ackerman had a science fiction fan club in LA in the 1940s. My Dad, who was too young to drive, talked his mother into driving him to and from these get togethers of fans and SF writers. Forry would always have a box of the featured writer's new books, all ready for the assembled fans to purchase (with, of course, a small profit going to Mr. Ackerman).
