SATURDAY EVENING POST Scrapbook Part 4

Walt Wetterberg did a series of "Ada the Ayrshire" cow cartoons for years. He was also as assistant on J.R. Williams' OUT OUR WAY daily syndicated panel. There are a few more Ada panels at the end of this entry.

Today: some rural and farm-related gag cartoons from some 1950s SATURDAY EVENING POST mags (and a few COLLIER'S). There are some more cow cartoons, as well as a chicken series titled "Penny."

A big thank you to Kristin Cawood for giving me this large scrapbook of 1950s gag cartoons to share! Thanks, Kristin!

What were these taken from? Farmer's Weekly?

BTW, the mention of "Out Our Way" warms my heart. I used to do a "25/50/75/100 years ago" feature and it meant reading all those papers. The 50 years ago papers had that wonderful panel and it was one of the highlights of my "research." It took awhile to learn the characters, but then it became an even better panel than it was to start with. Williams created a very fine body of work. (With or without help.)
