Belgium celebrated the 60th anniversary of the creation of legendary
cartoon characters – the Smurfs -- on October 23, 2018. Dozens dressed in blue
attended the event. Veronique Culliford, daughter of Pierre Culliford,
the creator of the Smurfs, attended the event in Brussels and said she
was very happy that the characters remain popular. Cartoonist Pierre
Culliford, who worked under the pseudonym "Peyo," died in 1992.
