Who Drew This?

Man, that style looks so familiar. I don't have a ton of books and such to research the question, but it's going to bug me all day.

Received the below email from Roy Doty this morning:

"Not sure who drew that spot. Lowell Hess sounds like a good guess. It was way before my days at Handyman."

Jay Lynch has left a tantalizing comment at the post about who it might be: He suggests a Chicago illustrator named Don Margules. I'm not familiar with his work -- anyone?
