Aw, that was nice, and I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. I met him once about 20 years ago, in a bar in DC with his son Bay, who was then the cartoonist at the NY Post. It was a very long and memorable evening; I think it stretched over several days. He was an old-school gentlman, a hale fellow & a force of nature. Vale.

Can't help but be a bit jealous! There is a bar -- the Overlook Lounge (225 E 44 St.) that has cartoon murals and there is a cartoon original by Bay there on the wall, and, I am pretty sure, there's one by his Dad as well. The bar used to be known as Costello's. It's right around the corner from The Palm and near the old (now closed) Pen and Pencil -- all bars where cartoonists would frequent and draw on the walls.
