It's smart and well done. Don't know how pioneering it is, though; I thought immediately of the Vaudeville show Winsor McCay did, in which he projected his Gertie the Dinosaur film on a movie screen and interacted with it on stage--tossing a pumpkin that Gertie would eat, walking behind the screen so that an animated McCay could climb on Gertie's head, etc. That was nearly 100 years ago. Similar idea, but "Hapless Hooligan" certainly takes it up a fun notch.
