1973 Video: SONNY AND CHER COMEDY HOUR "Love Story"

Here's an animation by John Wilson to the song "Love Story" by Randy Newman. It originally appeared on the SONNY AND CHER COMEDY HOUR in 1973 and probably has not been seen since.

In addition to creating a number of these pre-MTV animations for Sonny and Cher, John Wilson had an amazing career.

Born in Wimbledon in 1920, he served in the London Rifle Brigade in Africa, where he was wounded. While recovering in the hospital, he drew cartoons -- some of them were published.

He went on to work on films like GREAT EXPECTATIONS and THE THIEF OF BAGHDAD at Pinewood Studios. He came to the US and worked at UPA, and then Disney.

When studios weren't interested in his animated film idea, he created his own studio, Fine Arts Films, and did his own feature TARA, THE STONECUTTER (1955). The Studio did work for NBC (an animated version of the ballet PETROUSCHKA) and Billy Wilder, among other clients.
