The Garden As of Mid-August 2024

Here is the garden as it is in the middle of August. The raised beds are, along with the Queen Anne's Lace, full of zinnias. I planted 4,000 in the spring and most have come up. These are "California Giants" and will be about 3 feet tall and yield blooms into the fall.

They are lovely and I am thinking I will just plant swaths of them in the backyard next year, leaving the raised beds open for vegetables once more.

The tomato plants and the cucumbers, which were in pots on the side porch, did not do so well. It's good soil, but the weather and the placement of the plants may have meant less sun than they desired. The cucumber looks like it's cashing in its chips already.
