The soliders of "Beetle Bailey" have for decades managed to avoid taking part in any of this nation's far-flung conflicts, no matter how great the need for manpower or how urgent the cause. Ten-hut! Someone has apparently given the world's laziest solider his marching orders.
How else to explain yesterday's edition of the strip, in which we spot a feverish Beetle, along with a comrade, armed with rifles and ducking the zing! of bullets over their heads? Yes, Beetle appears to have been dispatched to Libya, Iraq or Afghanistan. Who knows if he'll survive?
