LE PETIT NICOLAS Pop Up Book Movie Titles

I saw this movie over the weekend. I had no idea it existed!

LE PETIT NICOLAS is the 2009 live action French movie adaptation of the Goscinny/Sempe book about a little boy and his friends. Embedding is disabled, but click here to see the titles, which are all Sempe drawings done in old school pop-up book style. For more about the creative team of Kuntzel and Deygas behind the titles, and about other productions with pop-up titles, look at the Forget the Film, Watch the Titles blog.

The terrific score is by Klaus Badelt. Here's an interview with him about the music:

The movie is sweet, all in the WIMPY KID and ANGUS, THONGS AND PERFECT SNOGGING vein. It was released in Europe and Canada, but I never saw it on a marquee in the States. It's a period piece, in French with English subtitles, set in the late 1950s/early60s, like the series of books. Goscinny's other co-creation ASTERIX makes a surprise appearance as well.
