May 29, 2010: Two Golden Age Comics legends smile and embrace at the National Cartoonists Society Reubens Weekend: Jerry Robinson, left, and Joe Kubert.
Joe Kubert died today. He was 85 years old.
A comics professional since the Golden Age of comic books, Joe is best known for the long-running DC comic book SGT. ROCK and his highly regarded Kubert School, which he and his wife Muriel began in 1976.
Scant details are available now, but The Beat reports he had been ill and in the hospital for a time:
Not one to rest on his considerable laurels, Kubert was still an active artist. Kubert is currently on the shelves, inking his son, Andy, on Before Watchmen: Nite Owl. Barely a month ago, DC announced Kubert had a new anthology coming out.
Cannot understate his incredible impact on comics. All Hawkmen flying at half-mast. So sad.
